Alick at the Broadmeadows staging post and training centre. The standard picture that was taken before being shipped off to Gallipoli. He was a saddler and survived the landing at ANZAC cove and went to fight in France. He was gassed in the trenches and suffered some lung damage. He finally died of lung complications in his 50s I think.

The back of the picture says: "874/3 A.J.Shields

Millie Peterson, Aunt Mary Davidson, Fred Peterson, Lock Perterson, Alick Shields, Uncle, Lock Davidson at Broadmeadows camp Victoria. August 1914".

Written on the back:

"This snapshot was taken by one of the boys about 3'o'clock the first day we landed at Daidanelles-Alex".

Written on back:

"An extra good view of the old Anzac. Beach at Daidanellis. Alex. Have had a few busy times here, all in Turkish time too".

Alick (standing) and his brother Ernest isadore (Izzi) before they went to Gallipoli.

Ernest Isadore (Izzi) Shields.

Written on back:

"Uncle Ernie Shields

Ernest Isadore (issy) Shields. Vic Shields brother in Victorian police force ".

Alex's discharge certificate signed by king George. Sort of "thanks for coming to our war" certificate.
